The Silk Roads and trade:
One of the first significant links between China and France was established via the Silk Roads, a trade network linking Asia and Europe. Although French merchants were not the main players in these exchanges, Chinese silk, silver and other precious products circulated throughout the Roman Empire, then through medieval territories, particularly to Europe.
In the Middle Ages, trade took place between China and the French kingdoms, albeit indirectly, via Arab and Venetian merchants who played a central role in transporting goods. Chinese products, such as silk and porcelain, were highly prized in Europe, including France.
